Karl'sWorld
Karl's World is the home of painter Karl Kim — a quiet room where real landscapes and imagined dreams share the same wall.
Every painting here begins in the imagination. The horizon looks like somewhere you've been; what floats above it never could.

Artist statement
Karl Kim is a painter working in acrylic on canvas. His work blends believable landscapes with imagined subjects — whales crossing the sky, galaxies above a city street — built up in thick, textured paint and deliberately simplified light. This archive collects his paintings in the order they were made, beginning in June 2026.
I paint places that could exist, and then let something impossible happen in them.
A sea that looks ordinary until a whale rises into the sunset. A city street at night where the sky has turned into spinning galaxies. A field, a lake, a ridge of mountains — familiar enough to remember, simplified until only the feeling of light remains.
Nothing is painted from photographs or from life. Everything begins in my head. I flatten light and shadow on purpose, pressing a scene into a few bold planes of color, so it sits halfway between a memory and a dream.
Nearly every painting has a horizon. To me, it is the line where the real world ends and the dream begins.
Whales and space are the way I speak about dreams most directly. The whale is the largest living thing that still seems to drift without weight; space is the largest silence I can imagine.
When either appears, the painting has crossed over — from the world as it is, into mine.
